Update

OK, it's been a month since I last posted, and I'm 2.5 weeks post-op on my right eye. Sorry not to have written sooner. I've had the flu, moved into a bigger house, and am now working shifts. So it's been a bit crazy.

Anyway, the right eye surgery went fine. Same deal as the left. However, pretty much immediately, it was obvious that the vision wasn't as good. If you remember, my right eye is my dominant eye and sees much better than my left. Well, I was only getting somewhere between 20/30 and 20/40 a week after the surgery. Not bad, but not what I was expecting. So at the one week exam, I asked for a glasses prescription. Apparently, what's going on is that my astigmatism is limiting my ability to see clearly. Essentially, the corrective power of the Visian lens is right, but it did nothing to fix my astigmatism. The Visian lens is approved for up to 2.5 cylinders (I think that's how it's measured) of astigmatism. I have 1.0 cylinder in my right eye, so I didn't think it was an issue. Apprently it is.

So now I am wearing a light pair of glasses for my astigmatism. It's annoying, but mostly that I'm a little confused as to how I have arrived here. It was suggested to me that this wouldn't be a problem. Well, it is. We should be able to correct it with Lasik sometime in the next few months, but I would really have preferred not to do another surgery.

Secondly, I am having substantial problems with night halos. Driving at night is an adventure, to say the least. I see a light halo around all lights, but at the edge of the halo is a bright circle that causes the problems. I understand that this could lessen over time, and that there are drops that can help lessen these effects. I'm hoping that this resolves itself, or at least calms down a bit.

So I am not as happy as I had hoped to be. I'm feeling a bit misled, and I'm surprised by the halos because by all accounts that is not one of the normal side effects of this surgery. I have heard of some who have some halo problems, but not to this extent. We'll see how things develop over the next few weeks. I have my one month post op in two weeks, and hopefully my sight will have stabilized and my course of action will be "clearer" then. Pun intended.

Hi,
I'll be going to see a consultant soon about the possibilities of surgery. My problems aren't quite as severe as yours are, however. My main problem is when I look to the right - my right eye goes extremely noticeably upwards. Also, when I'm driving, I can find it very difficult at times to keep focus with my "main" eye. My right eye (the weaker of the two) seems like it keeps trying to gain focus, and as it isn't quite perfectly alligned, this can make for quite an uncomfortable time.

I just discovered your blog today, and I really appreciate you taking the time out to tell us all in detail what you're going through. I hope that you get all your issues sorted out, and that you can finally be happy with your eyes.

Hello!!
Not happy to hear that you are not so happy about your results of this surgery, but happy to know that I am not alone... Well I do not have any halos at all but I have blurry vision. My left eye was a -16 and my right eye was a -13 both with astigmatism. Now the results are that I have 0 on the right and -3 on the left wish is pretty much. I still have the astigmatism and I think this is why I have blurry vision. Well I am not happy as i hoped to be ... I will get a pair of glasses but I didnt know that I would still have astigmatism. If someone who had this surgery can tell me if you got any serial number about your ICL lenses pls tell me or if they give a note with the lenses diopts he put into your eyes. I didnt get anything exept the bill.

My neighbor told me the exact same thing yesterday! He said that he also sees halos in street and car lights during the night. Do you know what it is and what causes it? I think it's a question that only optometrists can ask. I better accompany my friend to my eye doctor in Indianapolis.

i think that only the brain can take care of the halos because i had mine done in june and do get those at night but i am training my self to ignore them and live with them and its working . i am also only 5 months since i had it bt again i feel its better than my old contacts lenses when they used to get sticky and not confortable but that is just my personnel opinion good luck and thanks for sharing your own stories

Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Very detailed and informative about your ICL experience :)

I was looking into how the different vision surgery options compare (LASIK, PRK, and Visian ICLs Implantable Corrective Lenses). Just thought to post this for other folks doing their research too

www.yourvisionoptions.com was a good resource for me. Its a good read. Talks about cost, what the procedure will be like etc...leaning towards ICLs now that i've read about all these LASIK problems that I've read on other blogs...

Can I simply just say what a comfort to find a person that truly knows what
they are talking about on the internet. You definitely realize how to bring
a problem to light and make it important. More people
should read this and understand this side of the story.

I was surprised that you are not more popular because you most certainly have the gift.
